Suyodhan Saved Duryodhan!!
Let me throw some light on Dhuryodhan, the most hated character of Mahabharata, yet another very powerful epic of Indian Subcontinent after Ramayana.
Dhuryodhan, the elder among 100 Kauravas, was the cousin brother to Pandavas- Yudhishthira being the elder Pandava. He was ambitious and obsessed with the kingdom of Hastinapur. He wanted to become king of Hastinapur at any cost and this ambition led him to do many grave sins including ill-treating Draupadi (wife of Pandava brothers) in the court attempting to take-off her clothes infront of everyone.
For this and many other life-threatening attempts by Dhuryodhan on Pandavas, the battle of Mahabharata was faught in which he was defeated and killed by Bheema, the second pandav brother. This is what we all know and have always considered him as villain. But do you know the real reason behind why his thigh became the reason of his death? Why inspite of his mother’s power transfer, only thigh was left weak, when rest of the body became that of rock. Why destiny chose thigh-breaking as his death penalty?
That’s where Suyodhan comes into picture. Suyodhan was named Dhuryodhan due to his heinous activities since childhood and his ambitious greed. He was politically very sound man of his time, he was intelligent and was a very dear student of Balram, the elder brother of Krishna(do they need introduction?) His political shrewdness and love for his brothers and his wife, children, parents were unparalleled. Shri Krishna knew his good qualities and so did the fate. So, during the Mahabharata battle when Dhuryodhan’s mother came to rescue him by giving her powers in form of rock-solid body, his upper-thigh was overlooked since it was covered.
In the battle when Bheema tried to hit Duryodhan with his mace(gada), he was shockingly powerful and unbeatable. In mace-fight, hitting the opponent on upper-thigh portion is considered foul game and Pandavas could have never thought of it as they signified righteousness in the battle-field.
Bheema hit Duryodhan’s head but he couldn’t even hurt him an inch. That’s because his ambitions were politically correct. Yes, they had unlawful thoughts but it wasn’t enough to get him killed.
Next, Bheema hit his heart but to his surprise Dhuryodhan was almost untouched rather Bheema was losing his consciousness due to constant powerful mace-hits from Duryodhan.
All this while Suyodhan’s karma were saving Duryodhan.
Finally, Bheema remembered the most sinful crime that Duryodhan had done in his entire life – asking Draupadi to sit on his thighs in front of everyone, as symbol of being his mistress. This time when Bheema hit at his thigh, Dhuryodhan couldn’t stand and died that night due to excruciating pain. That’s how karmic web protects, heals, guides, punishes us all.
